Bank Locker Fee Change: If you are a Punjab National Bank (PNB) customer and use a bank locker, this news is very important for you. Ahead of Diwali, PNB has provided relief to its customers by significantly reducing locker rent.
According to a notice issued by the bank, the new rates were announced on October 16, 2025, and will come into effect after 30 days. This means that starting mid-November, you will have to pay less charges on your bank locker than before.
Locker rents reduced in every sector
PNB has reduced locker rents across rural, semi-urban and urban areas. In rural areas, the rent for a small locker has been reduced from Rs 1000 to Rs 750. Medium lockers will now be available for Rs 1900 instead of Rs 2500. In semi-urban areas, the rent for a small locker has been reduced from Rs 1500 to Rs 1150, and for a medium locker from Rs 3000 to Rs 2250. In urban and metro cities, the rent for a small locker has been reduced from Rs 2000 to Rs 1500, while for a medium locker it has been reduced from Rs 4000 to Rs 3000.
12 free visits a year
The bank stated that customers will be offered 12 free visits per financial year. This means you can open your locker up to 12 times without any extra charges. If you use the locker more than 12 times in a year, you will be charged ₹100 for each additional visit. Under the new condition, customers will be asked for written consent when issuing each new locker: “I/We agree to pay a fee of ₹100 for each additional operation after 12 visits in a financial year.”
When will the bank locker be opened?
PNB has also clarified that the bank will have the right to break open the locker under certain circumstances, such as-
- When the customer loses his keys and requests to open the locker himself.
- When asked to open the locker by a government or enforcement agency on a court order.
- When the customer does not follow the rules or does not stay in touch with the bank.
Before breaking into the locker, the bank will send three notices to the customer: a letter, an email, and an SMS. If contact cannot be made, a public notice will be published in newspapers, giving the customer 15 days to respond.
