In the month of January, there will be bank holiday for 16 days including second and fourth Saturday and Sunday. Will banks remain closed on Makar Sankranti?

According to the RBI calendar, banks will remain closed in Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Sikkim and Assam on Monday, January 15, 2024, on the occasion of Uttarayan Punyakal/Makar Sankranti Mahotsav/Maghe Sankranti/Pongal/Magh Bihu. Makar Sankranti falls on January 13, the second Saturday of the month, so the weekend will be long in these states. In such a situation, there will be three consecutive holidays in these states on 13 January (second Saturday), 14 January (Sunday) and 15 January (Monday).

  • 13 January (Saturday) – Second Saturday
  • 14 January (Sunday)
  • 15 January (Monday) – Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day (Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh)
  • 16 January (Tuesday) – Thiruvalluvar Day – Banks will remain closed in Tamil Nadu.
  • 17 January (Wednesday) – Uzhavar Tirunal/Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Birthday – There will be a holiday in banks in Tamil Nadu.
  • 22 January (Monday) – Banks closed in Imoinu Iratpa – Manipur.
  • 23 January (Tuesday) – Gayan – Banks are closed in Manipur.
  • 25 January (Thursday) – Thai Poosam/Birthday of Muhammad Hazrat Ali – There will be a holiday in banks in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh.
  • 26 January (Friday) – Banks will remain closed in all the states of the country on the occasion of Republic Day.
  • Banks will remain closed on the fourth Saturday of January 27.
  • There will be a holiday in banks due to 28th January being Sunday.
