According to the RBI list, on August 16 , banks will remain closed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh , Meghalaya, Mizoram, Jammu, Srinagar and Chandigarh .

Banks will remain open here

At the same time, banks will remain fully open and function normally in Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Goa and Himachal Pradesh.

That is, if you are in Delhi or Mumbai , you can go to the bank and work even on the day of Janmashtami, but in states like UP or Rajasthan, banks will be closed.

Today is Independence Day on Friday 15 August 2025, and on this day banks will remain closed across the country. This public holiday is in the list of RBI holidays and will be applicable to all government and private banks. However, digital services like ATM, internet banking and mobile banking will remain operational as before on these days , so tasks like cash withdrawal or transfer can be done online.

  • 27 August (Wednesday) – Ganesh Chaturthi / Samvatsari / Ganesh Puja – Holiday in cities like Mumbai, Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad etc.
  • 28 August (Thursday) – Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day) / Nuakhai – Holiday in Bhubaneswar and Panaji

BSE and NSE will also remain closed on 15th August 2025 on the occasion of Independence Day.
