After big festivals like Dussehra and Diwali in October, now November is starting with a bank holiday on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima. According to the holiday list released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at the beginning of the year, the holiday of Guru Nanak Jayanti will be applicable on all government, private and rural banks.

Where are banks closed and where are they open?

Banks will be closed in many states today, November 5th. This holiday is due to coincide with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary and Kartik Purnima. Bank branches will remain closed in states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. However, banks will remain open in Gujarat, Kerala, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, and several states in the Northeast. If you have any urgent banking work, you can now complete it tomorrow.

Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of Sikhism. Kartik Purnima is considered auspicious for bathing, charity, and lighting lamps. In many places, Dev Diwali is also celebrated on this day.

Banks will be closed in Meghalaya on November 7th due to the Wangala Festival. Banks will be closed nationwide on November 8th, being a second Saturday, while Karnataka will also celebrate Kanakadasa Jayanti on the same day. Banking services will be suspended in Sikkim on November 11th due to the Buddhist festival of Lhabab Duchen.

Banks will also be closed on all Sundays: November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, and on the fourth Saturday, November 22. However, customers need not worry. Services such as ATMs, net banking, mobile banking, and UPI will remain available as usual.
