Layoffs started in Gurugram-Bengaluru offices

Affected employees will get five months salary

According to reports, Amazon has sent an email to the fired employees offering five months advance salary. The employees have been asked to meet the leadership team on a specific date. According to sources, the layoffs at Amazon have just begun and are expected to last for weeks to come.

Biggest layoff in recession

In the current recession, Amazon’s removal of 18,000 employees will be the biggest layoff ever. By the end of September, more than 1.5 million employees were associated with Amazon. The layoffs mean that the latest cuts will be around one per cent of the workforce. The company has approximately 350,000 corporate employees worldwide.

More than 1.5 lakh jobs lost last year

According to tracking site layoff.fyi, the tech industry lost 1.5 lakh jobs last year. The phase of retrenchment will continue in the new year as well.

  • Snapchat laid off 1,200 in August.
  • Twitter fired 7,500 in October.
  • According to the Crunchbase tally, tech companies in the US will have 9,1000 layoffs in 2022.
