There is a very big and important news for the passengers travelling by air on 20th November . Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport of Mumbai, which is one of the busiest and major airports of the country, will remain closed on Thursday, 20th November.

The Adani Group owned Mumbai International Airport will remain closed for flight operations for 6 hours on 20th November. This decision has been taken for extensive maintenance of the runway built at the airport, after the monsoon. Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) said that the decision to close the runway has been taken to ensure continued safety, reliability and compliance with global aviation standards.

From what time to what time will the airport remain closed on November 20?

The private airport operator said that both cross runways (09/27 and 14/32) will be temporarily closed on November 20 from 11 am to 5 pm as part of a comprehensive, annual post-monsoon maintenance plan. The airport operator said that the maintenance will include detailed inspection, surface repair and technical evaluation of runway lighting, markings and drainage systems. Earlier, on May 8 this year, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was also closed for 6 hours. At that time, maintenance work was carried out on both the main runways of the airport before the onset of monsoon.

Runway maintenance before and after monsoon is very important and crucial

Earlier, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued, giving airlines and ground handling teams time to make necessary adjustments to flight schedules and manpower planning. Mumbai International Airport said the advance notice helps minimize passenger inconvenience and ensure seamless coordination among all operational stakeholders. This is a routine process carried out every year. Runway maintenance, both pre- and post-monsoon, is an integral part of the airport’s year-round operational readiness program, reflecting its ‘safety-first’ approach.
