Air India to resume flights to China after six years; timetable released

Direct flights between India and China are set to resume once again. Air India stated that these flights will begin on February 1, 2026, after the necessary regulations and approvals are met.

Air India Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson described this launch as not just a route launch but a bridge between two ancient civilizations and modern economic powers. According to a statement issued by Air India, Air India is planning four flights a week between Delhi and Shanghai. These flights will be operated using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which will have 19 flat bed seats in business class and 238 economy class seats.

Air India’s Executive Director said, “The resumption of flights between Delhi and Shanghai is not just the launch of a route. It is a bridge between two ancient civilizations and modern economic powers. We are delighted to be reconnecting one of the world’s most important air corridors. This will increase opportunities for travel, trade, education, culture and other sectors.”

Let us tell you that direct flights between India and China were suspended since 2020. Recently, when the frost in relations between the two countries thawed, an agreement was reached to resume air flights. Air India first launched nonstop flights to China in 2000.

Flight AI352 will depart from Delhi to Shanghai at 12:00 PM and arrive at 8:20 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight AI351, on the other hand, will depart from Shanghai to Delhi at 9:00 PM and arrive at 3:15 AM the next day. This flight will also operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
