Air India’s Chief Human Resource Officer, S.D. Tripathi said in the letter that the airline has made a policy to serve pilots even after retirement amid increasing number of aircraft in its fleet.



Air India, which has returned to the Tata Group after 69 years, has given a great news. This good news is for the pilots of the airline. Actually, the company has increased the age limit of its pilots to 65 years. That is, now pilots will not retire at 58 years.

New policy made by Air India

According to the new policy of Air India, the airline will extend service to its selected pilots on a contract basis for a period of five years after retirement. According to the report, this contract has been allowed to be extended till the age of 65 years. Air India has taken this decision in view of the availability of sufficient number of pilots for its expanded fleet size.

Decision under the fleet expansion plan

Internal documents issued by Air India on July 29 said that the focus is on expansion plans for the aircraft fleet in the future. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has agreed to allow Air India pilots to raise their retirement age from 58 to 65 years.

Air India’s Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), S.D. Tripathi has issued a letter in this regard. It has been told that the airline’s pilots currently retire at the age of 58, the company has made a policy to serve pilots even after retirement amid increasing number of aircraft in its fleet.

The contract will be on this basis

As per the new policy, the post-retirement contract will be considered on the basis of annual review of performance, conduct and flight safety record during the tenure. Air India will constitute a committee to check eligibility. This will include functional representatives of Human Resources (HR), Operations and Flight Safety.
