The airport “rage” saga has taken a sharp legal turn this morning. As of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Delhi Police have officially arrested Captain Virender Sejwal, the off-duty Air India Express pilot accused of assaulting passenger Ankit Dewan.
The thing is, the arrest was followed almost immediately by his release on bail. Or nothing. Let’s be real, the charges—including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation—are bailable under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Those too.

The Current Status (As of Dec 30)
The Arrest: After 10 days of public outcry and “silence” from regulators, Captain Sejwal joined the investigation on Monday and was formally arrested on Tuesday morning.
The CCTV Factor: Delhi Police confirmed they have finally collected the CCTV footage from Terminal 1. This was a major pain point for Dewan, who feared the evidence would “disappear.”
The Injuries: Medical reports have confirmed a nasal fracture for Ankit Dewan, which elevates the severity of the “physical altercation” claims.

Regulator & Airline Response
And here’s the kicker: while the pilot is out on bail, his professional future is in a tailspin.
Air India Express: They have grounded Sejwal and removed him from all official duties. They’ve condemned the behavior but haven’t given a “final decision” date yet.
The DGCA: Still no formal statement from the regulator on whether he will lose his flying license permanently.
The “No-Fly List” Debate: Dewan is pushing for Sejwal to be put on the National No-Fly List, arguing that if a passenger had done this, they’d be banned for years. Currently, Sejwal is not on that list.

The “Two Sides” Conflict
It’s an ongoing situation where the narrative is split.
Dewan’s Side: He was directed to a staff lane because of his infant in a stroller; the pilot allegedly “cut the line” and attacked him after a verbal dispute.
Sejwal’s Side: His lawyer claims Dewan made casteist remarks and threatened the pilot’s family, leading to a “personal scuffle” that had nothing to do with his job.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has ordered a formal inquiry, but for Dewan, the “silence” of the DGCA and DIAL remains the biggest frustration.
