Aadhar card holders: A big relief news is coming for Aadhaar card holders. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is soon going to launch a new mobile application, which is currently known as E-Aadhaar

Aadhar card holders: A big relief news is coming for Aadhaar card holders. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is going to launch a new mobile application soon, which is currently known as E-Aadhaar. Through this app, users will be able to update many details of their Aadhaar card like name, address, date of birth and mobile number sitting at home. With this, people will not have to visit centers for Aadhaar update and will get all the information sitting at home.

According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, out of about 1 lakh Aadhaar update machines, 2,000 machines have been connected to this new system. This will make the process of Aadhaar update easier.

Main features of E-Aadhaar app

  • Facility of updating Aadhaar at home.
  • There will be an option to change name, address, date of birth, mobile number.
  • QR code based Aadhaar sharing will be possible through the app.
  • There will be mobile-to-mobile and app-to-app Aadhaar verification.
  • There will be a facility to transfer Aadhaar details in a secure manner.
  • At present, no official announcement has been made by UIDAI regarding this app, but it may be launched soon.

E-governance portal and new QR code system

A few months ago, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) also launched the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal. Its objective is to make the process related to Aadhaar easy, fast and transparent. This will allow Aadhaar verification requests to be approved quickly. Now UIDAI is preparing to bring another big change, that is QR code-based verification. This will allow Aadhaar to be shared securely with others through mobile or app. It can be used for hotel check-in, train ticket verification, identification in government services.

What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Government of India which is a proof of identity and address of a person. It contains information such as name, address, gender, date of birth and also takes biometric data (fingerprint, iris scan) of the person. Any citizen of India who completes the verification process of UIDAI can apply for Aadhaar.
