The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) implemented new rules in November designed to make Aadhaar updates faster, easier, and more digital. These changes aim to simplify the process for millions of users, especially those who want to update essential information like name, address, or date of birth without visiting a government center. Here’s a complete guide.

Aadhaar update now completely online

Under the new rules, individuals can now update basic information about themselves online through the myAadhaar portal – including name, address, date of birth and mobile number.

The portal now cross-verifies your information with other government databases like PAN or passport, which means there is less need to upload multiple documents or visit Aadhaar centres for verification.

However, for biometric updates such as fingerprint, iris scan and photo, users will still have to visit an authorised Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Revision of base fee structure

  • UIDAI has also introduced a revised fee structure for different types of Aadhaar updates:
  • ₹75 will be charged if you change information like name, address or date of birth (Demographic details).
  • 125 rupees for biometric update
  • Online document update will be free till June 14, 2026
  • Apart from this, biometric update will be free for children aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years, so that parents can easily update their child’s Aadhaar.

The last date for Aadhaar-PAN linking is December 31, 2025.

UIDAI has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN by December 31, 2025. PAN cards not linked by this deadline will be deactivated from January 1, 2026.

For new applicants, Aadhaar linking will be mandatory during PAN registration. Meanwhile, banks and financial institutions have been directed to adopt simple e-KYC methods, such as OTP or video verification, for customer identification to make the entire process paperless and faster.
