During the hearing, the Election Commission clarified that the Aadhaar card is not a proof of citizenship but a proof of ID.

Now illegal migrants will not be able to get Aadhaar

The government is taking these steps to prevent illegal migrants from obtaining Aadhaar through forged documents. Illegal migrants have been trying to obtain unique identity cards on the basis of forged or fake documents. The responsibility of its verification has been of the state governments and Aadhaar is issued only after strict scrutiny through the state portal.

In 15 years, more than 140 crore Aadhaar cards have been made

During the last 15 years, more than 140 crore Aadhaar cards have been made in the country. Although Section 9 of the Aadhaar Act states that it is not a proof of citizenship or residence, the new measures are an attempt to ensure that only citizens get the unique number.
