In such a situation, if your Aadhaar card is lost or your data is stolen, then the risk of its misuse increases. In order to avoid banking and financial frauds, UIDAI is giving Aadhaar card holders the facility of online Aadhaar locking and unlocking. Once this facility is used, fraudsters will not be able to cheat your Aadhaar card.

How to lock Aadhar card?

To lock someone’s Aadhar card, card holders need a 16-digit virtual ID. This is necessary for locking Aadhar card. If you do not have a 16-digit Virtual ID, you can get it by sending an SMS to 1947.

How to lock Aadhar card through SMS?

First of all you have to send SMS by typing GETOTP to 1947 from your registered mobile number. After this an OTP will come on your mobile number. This OTP has to be sent again to 1947 number by typing LOCKUID Aadhaar number. After this your Aadhaar number will be locked and it will not be misused in any way in case of loss.

How to unlock

If you want to unlock the Aadhaar number, then for this you have to send an SMS from your registered mobile number. For this you will need a virtual id.

How to unlock via SMS?

SMS to 1947 from your registered mobile number by typing GETOTP space and last 6 digits of Virtual ID. Now after the OTP is received, again on 1947, the last 6 digits of the UNLOCKUID virtual ID and the OTP will have to be messaged. After this your Aadhar card will be unlocked.
