8th Pay Commission: There are a lot of expectations among central employees and pensioners across the country regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Meanwhile, the Commission has decided to hold an important meeting on 6th and 7th July in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. During this, the Commission will directly interact with employees’ organizations, unions and institutions associated with the central government. The 8th Pay Commission, working under the Ministry of Finance, said in a notification issued on 26th May that organizations wishing to meet the Commission will have to apply for an appointment online by 15th June 2026.
The focus will be on the demands of the employees
The purpose of this meeting is to directly understand the demands, concerns, and suggestions of employees and pensioners. It is expected that issues related to the fitment factor, basic salary increase, allowances, and pensions will be at the center of discussion. The Commission has also clarified that organizations seeking appointments must provide their unique Memo ID, which is received after submitting the memorandum. The Commission has already sought suggestions and demands from all stakeholders. The deadline for submitting memorandums has been set as May 31, 2026.
Meetings will be held not only in Odisha but also in other states.
The Commission has indicated that similar meetings will be held in other states and union territories in the coming months. The aim is to gather the views of as many employees and organizations as possible, so that the final recommendations can be made inclusive of all stakeholders.
What is 8th Pay Commission?
The Central Government constituted the 8th Pay Commission on November 3, 2025. This commission reviews the salaries, allowances, and pensions of central government employees and pensioners. This time, the most discussed issue is the fitment factor, which will determine the new basic salary of employees.
When can the report come?
The Commission is currently in the process of consulting and soliciting suggestions from various employee organizations. The Commission is required to submit its report to the government within 18 months of its formation. Therefore, it is believed that its recommendations may be released by mid-2027. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai is the Chairperson of the 8th Pay Commission. Pulak Ghosh is the Member Secretary, and Pankaj Jain is the other member.
