8th Pay Commission latest news: Central government employees are waiting for the time when the 8th Pay Commission will be formed. The Terms of Reference will be finalized and the fitment factor for the new salary will be proposed. There is a lot of speculation about the 8th Pay Commission. Like how much will the fitment be? What will happen to the dearness allowance? How much will the salary increase after including the rest of the allowances and most importantly, will there be any major decision regarding promotion and pay-grade levels? According to the information received from the sources, this time there will be a good jump in the salary. No matter how much the fitment is, but a good increase can be seen in the salary of the employees.
8th Pay Commission: How much will be the fitment factor?
First of all, we will talk about the fitment factor. In the speculations or discussions going on so far, three numbers of fitment factor have been mentioned. First 1.92, second 2.57 (current), there is talk of keeping it 2.86. At the same time, the employee union has been demanding to keep the fitment factor 3.68 times since the formation of the 7th Pay Commission. However, the view of the experts is clear, the fitment can be around 1.92 only. This will also lead to a good jump in the current salary. If the experts are right, then the new basic of those with a current basic salary of Rs 18000 can be Rs 34,560. However, this will not be the final basic. There is a catch in this.
8th Pay Commission: Dearness Allowance (DA) will bring a bumper jump
The current dearness allowance for central employees is 55 percent. It is applicable from January 2025. It will be revised once again in July 2025. If we look at the trend of the current AICPI index, it can be 58 percent. Meaning an increase of 3 percent can be seen in it. If this trend continues for the next six months, then the dearness allowance applicable from January 2026 will be 61 percent. Meaning once again an increase of only 3 percent will be seen. But, at the time of announcement of the 8th Pay Commission, the government had said that it would be applicable from January 1, 2026. In such a situation, the dearness allowance will be 61 percent and because the new pay commission will be implemented, it will be merged in the basic salary itself. Meaning the revised basic of those with a basic salary of Rs 18,000 can be Rs 28,980.
What will be the new basic salary in the 8th Pay Commission?
When the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the new basic salary will be designed by adding the existing basic salary + dearness allowance + fitment factor. Meaning 18,000+10,980=28,980*Fitment Factor (1.92). In such a situation, the new basic salary of employees at Level-1 Grade-Pay 1800 can be Rs 55,641. This will happen because, dearness allowance will be made zero in the new pay commission and the existing dearness allowance can be merged in the basic salary. Then the fitment will be applicable on it. So this can lead to a bumper jump in the salary of the employees. However, the entire decision to merge the dearness allowance will be of the Pay Commission. At the same time, it will depend on the approval of the cabinet. If the government does not merge it but pays a lump sum of 61 percent to the employees, then the basic salary will remain the same and the new basic will be Rs 34,560.
8th Pay Commission: What will happen to HRA and TA?
Whenever a new pay commission comes, the allowances are also revised. If the dearness allowance is made zero, then the rates of HRA will also be revised. At the same time, travel allowance (TA) can also be revised. But, all this will depend on the recommendations of the Pay Commission. If we assume that the employee who is currently at level-1, but is also posted in X city, then his HRA will be 27 percent of the current rate (may also be different after revision). At the same time, the travel allowance will be according to the higher TPTA city. However, even if there is no change in this, then the total HRA will be ₹ 9,331 at the rate of 27% and TA will be ₹ 1,350.
So how much will be the net salary?
How much will be the total salary i.e. net salary in the 8th Pay Commission, it can be estimated by adding all the allowances and fitment. However, it is not right to add dearness allowance right now. For this, first the recommendations of the Pay Commission will have to be taken into account. But, if we assume dearness allowance to be zero and calculate on level-1 pay grade of 1800 then the salary will be something like this.
