Under the 7th Pay Commission, the Central Government gives the gift of DA Hike to the employees twice a year from January and July. However, it is announced only after a few months. This time also, government employees and pensioners are waiting for the increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief from July.
According to the data of AICPI-IW, this time government employees and pensioners can get the gift of 3 to 4 percent increase in DA and DR, which will be considered effective from July 1. This increase can be announced in September or October, because often the increased DA and DR are announced from July in this month.
DA hike will depend on this figure
The calculation of dearness allowance is done on the basis of All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW). This index was 143 in March 2025 and has reached 144 by May. If this situation continues, there will be a possibility of an increase of 3%.
How will dearness allowance reach 60 percent?
Since the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, there has been a steady growth in the rates of dearness allowance. In the year 2016, dearness allowance was 0% and by January 2025 it had reached 55%. With a possible 3% growth in July, this figure can reach 58%. After the next review in January 2026, if there is an increase of even 2%, then dearness allowance will become 60 percent.
What will happen when the 8th Pay Commission is implemented?
The 8th Pay Commission can be implemented from January 2026. After which possibly up to 60 percent of dearness allowance can be included in the basic salary. This is a standard process during the Pay Commission, where the salary structure is revised and the calculation of dearness allowance starts from 0.
Will have to wait for a few more months
The final decision on the increase in dearness allowance will be taken by the central government after the approval of the cabinet. Employees and pensioners will have to wait for a few more months for the official announcement. This increase can be announced in September or October, after which the money of the increased DA will be sent along with the salary of the next month, adding it to the month of July.
