7th Pay Commission: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees. After this, DA has now become 55% of the basic salary, which was earlier 53%. This revised DA will be effective from January 1, 2025 and its arrears will be given in June 2025. After this, this new DA will be included in the salary of every month.
This increase will benefit all the employees coming under the framework of the 7th Pay Commission. This decision is in line with the recent increase of 2% in DA for central employees and pensioners by the Central Government.
Last DA hike of 7th Pay Commission
With this amendment, DA has reached 55%, which is considered to be the last DA hike under the 7th Pay Commission. The validity of the 7th Pay Commission is ending on 31 December 2025.
What is the reason for the increase?
This increase in dearness allowance is based on the data of All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). This index is increasing continuously. In March 2025, this index increased by 0.2 points to 143.0. At the same time, in April 2025, it increased by another 0.5 points and reached 143.5.
The Labor Bureau has confirmed that the CPI-IW increased by 0.5 points to 143.5 in April, which is an indication of rising inflation. Due to this, this amendment in DA became necessary.
When will the next amendment take place?
Now the eyes of the employees are on the next DA revision, which will be implemented from July 1, 2025. Usually it is announced around Diwali (October-November). This can also be the last DA hike of the 7th Pay Commission. After this, the 8th Pay Commission can be implemented from January 1, 2026.
