Due to the corona epidemic, the central and state governments had stopped three installments of the increased DA to their employees. Now it is being reinstated.

Last month itself, the central government had announced to give the benefit of increased dearness allowance (DA) to its employees. About 65 lakh central workers are expected to benefit from this announcement. Meanwhile, now the states have also started making announcements one after the other to pass on the benefits of increased DA to their employees. The most recent name among them has been from Jharkhand. However, reports of announcements related to this have come to light in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh too in the next few days.

It has been told that government employees in Bihar can get a big gift before Independence Day (August 15). According to reports, the Nitish Kumar government may soon approve the implementation of increased Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees. For government employees in Bihar, this increase will be effective from July 1, 2021. It has been told that the cabinet will soon take a decision on this plan after meeting.

Earlier, since the decision of the Central Government to increase the DA of central employees, so far five states have also announced to increase the dearness allowance for their respective employees. In this context, Bihar can be the sixth such state, where the benefit of this allowance should be given. On the other hand, in UP also, the Finance Department has prepared a blueprint for giving DA. It is just waiting for approval from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Rajasthan has been at the fore in the states deciding on the hike in DA. On the lines of the Center, the Gehlot government had first announced to increase the dearness allowance of the employees by 11 percent. Here also the increased rate of dearness allowance has been implemented from 1 July 2021. After this, the Haryana government gave a big gift to the employees and pensioners. Here also the DA to the employees was increased from 17 per cent to 28 per cent and the increased rates were implemented.

At the same time, the Karnataka government, which is still battling Kovid, has decided to increase the dearness allowance of the employees. The state had last announced a 4.7 per cent DA hike in October 2019, but in 2020 the Covid-19 crisis put the government’s decision on hold for a year. The latest announcement to implement Dearness Allowance has been made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand.

Central government increased DA withholding for one and a half year: Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters after the meeting of the Union Cabinet on July 14 that the increase in DA and DR will put an additional burden of Rs 34,401 crore on the central exchequer. Both will come into effect from July 2021. In view of the Kovid-19 epidemic, the government had stopped three additional installments of DA and DR. These installments were due from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
