Before Diwali, the Union Cabinet had given a gift to the employees by increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 3%. Dearness Allowance (DA) has come into effect from July 1. However, Central Government employees and pensioners have not received DA and DR for 18 months from 1st January 2020 to 30th June 2021. On which the Prime Minister can take a big decision by the end of this month (November).

Earlier DA was increased at the rate of 28 per cent. With the increase in Dearness Allowance from July 2021, the outstanding arrears will also be available. Central government employees will also get dues with 31% DA, from October 2021, central government employees will get the benefit of increased 31% DA.

Last year employees did not get DA and DR

In April last year, the Finance Ministry had stopped the payment of DA and DR from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, in view of the corona pandemic. Due to which central government employees and pensioners did not get DA and DR for 18 months.

However, the government has made it clear that the arrears of these 18 months will definitely be paid. Central Government employees and pensioners will not be given. Rather, the increased DA will be effective from July 1. According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, there is a burden of Rs 9488.74 crore on the exchequer on payment of 31 per cent DA and arrears.

DA was increased by 4% in January 2020. Then, it increased by 3% in June 2020 and 4% in January 2021. However, due to the Corona pandemic, the government had banned the increase of 3 DA from January 2020 to June 2021.

31% increase in DA

In July, the government has released it simultaneously at the rate of 28%. This has been increased by 11%, after which once again on 3rd October the diyas were increased by 3%, thereby increasing the DA to 31%.
