The Sikkim government on Tuesday announced a hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for its employees and pensioners. According to a notification from the Finance Department, employees and pensioners drawing pay in the pre-revised basic pay structure will get an additional DA and DR (dearness relief) of six per cent, respectively. With this hike, their DA and DR will increase to 252 per cent, it said.

55 percent DA to these employees

The notification states that employees and pensioners covered under the Seventh Pay Commission will receive an additional 2 percent DA and DR. With this, their DA and DR will increase to 55 percent. This increase will be effective from January 1, 2025. The notification states that employees appointed on a contract basis and in work-charged establishments receiving revised pay in the regular pay scale will also benefit.

Gift from Rajasthan and Bihar Government

Recently, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has gifted a three percent increase in dearness allowance to the state employees. Now, under the seventh pay scale in the state, the dearness allowance or dearness relief payable to the state employees and pensioners will be increased from 55 percent to 58 percent from July 1. This decision will benefit about eight lakh employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners. Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad employees will also get the benefit of this increase. Similarly, the Bihar government has increased the DA from 55 percent to 58 percent.

Announcement has also been made for central employees

The Union Cabinet approved a three percent increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief for approximately 49.19 lakh central government employees and 68.72 lakh pensioners. DA and DR currently constitute 55 percent of basic pay/pension, and the three percent increase is effective July 1, 2025. This will have a total annual impact of ₹10,083.96 crore on the exchequer.
