Claim: Don’t take the ₹500 note in which the green stripe is made near Gandhiji, as it is fake. Take only those notes of Rs 500, in which the green stripe is near the signature of the RBI governor.

A message is being circulated these days claiming that the ₹500 note is fake, in which the green stripe is not near the signature of the RBI Governor but near Gandhiji’s picture. The viral message says, “Don’t accept ₹500 notes with the green stripe near Gandhiji, as they are fake. Accept only those ₹500 notes in which the green stripe is near the signature of the RBI Governor.” Forward this message to your family and friends.”

If you have also received such a message, do not fall into its trap. This claim is wrong and according to RBI both types of notes are valid. PIB Fact Check has warned people about this by tweeting.
