India airport closures May 2025: Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, the Indian government has taken a big precaution and decided to temporarily close 32 airports in northern and western India. Aviation regulator DGCA in the country said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other concerned aviation agencies have issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) in this regard.

These 32 airports of India will remain closed till 15 May

DGCA said that AAI and its associated aviation authorities have issued a notice (NOTAM) to the airmen and informed that due to operational reasons, all civil flights are being temporarily suspended at 32 airports in the country from 9 May to 14 May 2025 (which corresponds to 0529 IST on 15 May 2025).

A senior official of the Civil Aviation Ministry said that all civil flight services from these airports have been temporarily suspended. Apart from this, 25 Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes of Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Region (FIR) have also been closed due to operational reasons.

Keshod 18. Kishangarh 19. Kullu Manali (Bhuntar) 20. Leh 21. Ludhiana 22. Mundra 23. Nalia 24. Pathankot 25. Patiala 26. Porbandar 27. Rajkot (Hirasar) 28. Sarsawa 29. Shimla 30. Srinagar 31. Thoise 32. Uttarlai

How long will this ban remain?

According to NOTAM number G0555/25, this ban will remain in force till 11:59 UTC on May 14, 2025, which is till 5:29 am on May 15 as per Indian time. During this time, flying from ground level to unlimited height will not be allowed. All airlines and operators have been advised to plan their flights through alternate routes.

Threat from drone activities

Meanwhile, due to tension with Pakistan, suspicious drone activities have been observed at 26 locations along the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control (LoC). According to defense sources, these drones can be equipped with armaments (weapons) and pose a threat to military and civilian targets.

Drones are being seen at these places

Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuwarbet, and Lakhi Nala.
