The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ordered withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes on May 19, giving people time till September 30 to exchange it or deposit it in banks.

The central bank had said earlier this month that about 93% of the ₹2,000 notes have either been deposited in banks or exchanged. “As per data received from banks, the total value of ₹2,000 bank notes withdrawn from circulation till August 31, 2023 is ₹3.32 lakh crore,” the RBI said in a statement in early September. As a result, the value of ₹2,000 bank notes in circulation by the close of business on August 31, 2023 was ₹24,000 crore.’

Process to deposit ₹2,000 notes
