RBI Release New 20 Rupee Banknotes: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on 17 May 2025 that the central bank is set to issue new Rs 20 banknotes with the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra soon. The Rs 20 note will have all the aspects including the design of the new series of notes prevalent in the country, except for the signature of the new governor.

RBI said in an official statement that the Reserve Bank of India will soon issue Rs 20 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series, which will bear the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The design of these notes is in every way similar to the Rs 20 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series.

What will happen to the old notes?

The central bank also assured the citizens that all the banknotes of the value of Rs 20 issued by the RBI in the past will remain legal tender in India. Old notes will also remain in circulation. They will be completely valid.

According to the official website of RBI, the size of the 20 rupee banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi (New) series is 63 mm x 129 mm, and the color is ‘green- yellow’.
