Delhi Public Holiday Nov 25: What’s Closed, Special Trains

The Delhi government just made it official. November 25th is a public holiday. Full stop.

This wasn’t a casual decision. This happened. And then the holiday followed, to mark the immense weight of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. That’s why the city shuts down. The Ninth Guru. They call him Hind Di Chadar—the shield of India. His sacrifice, defending religious freedom against forced conversions back in 1675. That’s the history we are commemorating.

CM Rekha Gupta shared the news, stressing that Guru Sahib’s timeless message—courage, compassion, freedom of faith—is what keeps guiding people.

🚧 What’s Closed, What’s Still Running (The Field Guide)

The main question everyone is asking is about the chutti. Here’s the breakdown. Let’s be real, you need to know this.

  • Government Offices & Departments: Almost certainly closed. Expect State government offices to be shut down.

  • Schools and Colleges: All the government-run ones? Locked. Many private schools will likely join them, or nothing.

  • Hospitals and Healthcare: Emergency services are functional. Government hospitals stay open. People still get sick, those too.

  • Public Transport: Delhi Metro, buses, taxis—they run normally. You can still move around the city.

🚂 The Pilgrim Rush: Special Trains are Running

Here’s the kicker: The focus is now on the pilgrimage to Sri Anandpur Sahib, the sacred site where the Guru’s head was cremated. The Indian Railways stepped up to manage the crowd.

  • The Old Delhi AC Special: This runs daily on November 22, 23, 24, and 25. It’s a fully AC service.

    • Departure: Old Delhi at 7:00 AM.

    • Arrival: Sri Anandpur Sahib at 1:45 PM the same day.

    • Return: Leaves Anandpur Sahib at 8:30 PM and hits Delhi by 3:15 AM the next morning.

    • Stops include: Sonipat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sirhind.

  • The Patna Sahib Special: The big, long-haul train with 22 coaches.

    • Departure: Patna Sahib on November 23 at 6:40 AM.

    • Arrival: Sri Anandpur Sahib the next morning at 4:15 AM.

    • Return: Leaves Anandpur Sahib on November 25 at 9:00 PM and arrives at Old Delhi at 11:30 PM.

    • Stops include: Lucknow, Moradabad, Ambala.

The effort is massive. Railway Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and the central leadership got involved. It’s all about ensuring pilgrims get safe, seamless travel for this deeply important, ongoing commemoration.
