CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the department to file a revision of the Supreme Court order on the mandatory TET for serving teachers of the UP Basic Education Department.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Basic Education Department to file a revision of the Supreme Court’s order mandating the TET for serving teachers. CM Yogi stated that the state’s teachers are experienced and have been trained periodically by the government, so it’s unfair to ignore their qualifications and years of service.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court recently ruled that passing the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) will be mandatory for all new teachers and those currently employed seeking promotion. The court clearly stated that if a teacher seeks a new job or promotion, their claim will not be valid without passing the TET.

Relief to teachers with less than 5 years of service

The bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan had said that teachers who have less than 5 years left in service will not need to pass TET. They can remain on the job till retirement. However, if such teachers want to get promotion, then it will be mandatory for them to pass TET.

2 years grace period for passing TETThe court had also directed that teachers who were

appointed before the Right to Education Act (2009) came into force and who have more than 5 years of service left, will have to pass the TET within two years. If they are unable to do so, they will have to lose their jobs. Such teachers will get only terminal benefits.
