Weather Update: Incessant rains and cloudbursts have wreaked havoc in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. Flash floods and landslides have caused extensive damage to roads and bridges in the state.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the state in the next five days. The Meteorological Department has warned of continuous heavy rainfall in many districts. People have also been urged to remain alert, follow weather advisories and avoid going near water bodies and landslide prone areas.
Disaster in these districts
India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director Dr. C.S. Tomar said that a warning has been issued for the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely. Uttarkashi, Dehradun and Bageshwar will wreak havoc on the first day. The second day will be difficult for Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and the third day will be difficult for Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Nainital districts. An orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain in Chamoli, Bageshwar, Dehradun districts on the fourth and fifth days.
Rains above expectations
According to the Meteorological Department, Uttarakhand has already recorded more than expected rainfall this year. Dr. Tomar said that so far our seasonal rainfall has reached +18 percent. The normal rainfall is 971 mm, while 1,143 mm of rainfall has been recorded so far. Talking about the month of August, the normal rainfall is 376.5 mm, while 52.9 mm of rainfall has been recorded so far. At present, the rainfall has increased by 47 percent compared to the normal
