The weather conditions in Maharashtra are currently causing concern. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the state due to Cyclone Shakti developing in the Arabian Sea. Heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas are expected over the next few days, requiring vigilance in coastal and interior districts. Sea conditions are expected to be extremely rough in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and other coastal districts, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Several districts are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains, which could increase the risk of waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.

Authorities have issued instructions to coastal and vulnerable areas to initiate disaster preparedness and to stay safe. People have been urged to carefully monitor weather forecasts and exercise caution.

Special vigilance on coastal districts

The IMD has issued a warning for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. This alert will remain in effect until October 7. Wind speeds could reach 45-65 kmph, with sea conditions expected to be extremely rough. Coastal communities have been advised to remain on high alert.

Warning for fishermen and coastal residents

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea due to rough seas. Boats already at sea have been advised to return immediately. Coastal residents have been asked to stock up on essential supplies, stay indoors, and follow official updates.

Heavy rain forecast in interior Maharashtra

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the interior districts. Heavy rain is possible in parts of eastern Vidarbha and Marathwada. Humidity and dense clouds in northern Konkan are also likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas.

Government launches disaster management preparedness

The Maharashtra government has activated its disaster management system and evacuation plans. District administrations have been instructed to prepare shelters, provide medical facilities, and maintain contact with the NDRF, police, and fire departments.

Mumbai and surrounding cities affected

Heavy rain in Mumbai and surrounding cities may cause disruptions to transport services, waterlogging, and disruptions to daily activities. Citizens are advised to plan their travels carefully.

Preparation and vigilance are essential

The path of Cyclone Shakti is not yet clear, but in view of the heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas, vigilance and preparedness have been emphasized. Both the public and local authorities have been advised to exercise caution.
