This year’s monsoon season in India has proven to be exceptionally good so far. Many states have received more than normal rainfall, while heavy downpours have disrupted normal life elsewhere.
After two and a half months, the pace has slowed, but the time for departure hasn’t yet arrived. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major update, announcing the monsoon’s return, or “comeback,” within the next 100 hours. During this time, heavy rains will once again lash many parts of the country.
The weather will change again in Rajasthan.
This monsoon season has performed exceptionally well in Rajasthan. Most districts in the state received good rainfall, directly benefiting farmers. Although the rains had slowed in recent days, and the skies were clear, the Meteorological Department now predicts that with the monsoon’s return, intermittent heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in many districts of eastern Rajasthan. This will impact both crops and water levels.
Clouds will rain in Delhi-NCR too
The first phase of the monsoon in the national capital, Delhi, was weak, but the second phase brought some significant relief. There has been no rain here for a few days, increasing humidity and heat. However, according to the latest IMD report, light to moderate rain is expected in Delhi and surrounding areas over the next 100 hours. Strong winds will also blow during this period, making the weather pleasant.
Rain alert in North India
Many states in northern India are bracing for another monsoon pounding. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Haryana within the next 100 hours. Mountainous regions, in particular, are at risk of landslides and rising river levels.
Rain with strong winds in South India
The monsoon will also return strongly to the southern states. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Yanam will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next few days. Strong winds may also disrupt normal life in many areas. Farmers and fishermen have been advised to remain vigilant.
Heavy rain forecast in western India as well
The monsoon will once again be active in Maharashtra, Goa, and the Konkan region. The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible over the next 100 hours. This is likely to cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupt traffic.
Heavy rains lash northeastern states
The monsoon will also return to full force in Northeast India. Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh will experience continuous heavy rainfall over the next few days. There is also a risk of flooding along with strong winds.
Eastern and Central India also affected
Central and eastern India will also be untouched by this trend. Heavy rains will occur in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This is a sign of relief for some areas that have been experiencing prolonged drought.
Areas with light rain are also on alert.
The Meteorological Department has stated that heavy rain, along with light to moderate rainfall and strong winds, is expected in several states over the next 100 hours. This will impact both farm crops and water storage.
