The Central Government has made it mandatory for the old private and commercial four wheelers to fasten from January 2021 on tightening the screws. In the new year, fitness vests will not be issued without fastags of old vehicles. Apart from this, fastag is also being made mandatory for third party insurance. Without this, the insurance of car-truck, bus will not be possible.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued draft-notification to the stakeholders on September 3. It mentions that several measures are being taken to promote digital payments with the help of Fastag rather than cash on toll plazas. Under this, it will be compulsory to fasten on January 1, 2021 on the windscreen of private vehicles purchased before December 2017.

It is known that the Ministry had issued a notification regarding the sale of new vehicles with Fastag from December 1, 2017. This involves fastening the manufacturer’s company or dealer on the vehicle’s windscreen. Apart from this, the Ministry is also going to change the rules for third party insurance of old vehicles. Third party insurance will only occur when a valid Fastag ID is in the system. This rule will be implemented from the first of April, 2021. At present, the number of trucks, buses and cars in the country is 70 million, but Fastag has sold less than 20 million.

Will not be fraudulent
The Fastag system has been linked by the government to software called vehicles. After entering the vehicle number in it, the name of the vehicle owner, registration certificate, driving license information etc. will be seen on the mobile app or computer screen. Road Transport Specialist S.P. Singh said that the drivers will not be able to fake the Fastag. Tax evasion of thousands of crores of rupees annually with the collusion of toll workers, NHAI officers and drivers will stop and the government’s revenue will increase.
