If your car’s FASTag ever shows as “Inactive” or “Not Working” at the toll booth, don’t worry. Lakhs of vehicle owners across the country are facing this problem. The reason for this was the KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process, which has now been made much simpler by the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India).

Just like KYC is required for a bank account, KYV is now mandatory for every vehicle’s FASTag. The aim is to ensure that each tag is linked to the vehicle for which it was issued. Earlier, the KYV process was cumbersome, due to which many car tags were unnecessarily deactivated. Now, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has made it completely simple.

New KYV rules:

  • Now only one photo will be required – just upload a front photo of the vehicle, with the number plate and FASTag visible on the windshield.
  • The system will automatically generate RC – you no longer need to upload RC. By entering the vehicle number or mobile number, the system will automatically retrieve RC information from the vehicle database.
  • FASTag will not be deactivated immediately – In case of incomplete KYV, you will first receive an SMS reminder; the tag will not be blocked immediately.
  • Multiple vehicle KYV from one mobile – If you have more than one vehicle, you can choose which one to do KYV for.
  • Bank will help – In case of any uploading issue, your FASTag issuing bank will assist you.

How to complete KYV:

  • Go to https://fastag.ihmcl.com .
  • Login with your registered mobile number.
  • Upload a front photo of your car.
  • Check the RC information and click “Submit”.
  • Your FASTag will be activated, and the worry of “inactive” notification will be gone forever. Apart from this, for any assistance, National Highway Helpline 1033 can be called.
