Ahmedabad: Days after the authorities ordered for a roadside wall to be built to hide and separate the Saraniyavas or Dev Saran slum in Ahmedabad ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the city for the mega event ‘Namaste Trump’, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), on Monday, sent eviction notices to 45 families from the slum.

However, media reports suggest that there seems to be a gap between what the slum dwellers and the authorities have to say about the issue. Reports mention that while the slum dwellers claim that they have been asked to move out of the place within seven day due to the ‘Namaste Trump’ event, the AMC officials have denied sending any such notices in lieu of the upcoming event.

While speaking to a media portal, a slum dweller said that the officers who came to serve them the notices asked them to vacate the place as soon as possible. He further told the portal that they have been asked to move out because the US President is visiting the area for an event.

Reports further said that Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, on Monday, visited the Motera stadium to make sure that all arrangements ahead of the event are going on smoothly and that the preparations are up to the mark. Rupani, while talking about Trump’s visit, said that it is a delight for the state to have Trump and that the public is eagerly waiting to be addressed by them. Ahead of Trump’s visit, posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump and Melania Trump have been put up all across the city ahead of the event.

‘Namaste Trump’ is scheduled to take place at Ahmedabad’s Motera stadium. As a part of the preparations, walls opposite Motera Stadium have been painted with images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump and slogans. During the event, both Modi and Trump are expected to address a gathering of about 1.25 lakh people.
