You no longer need apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm to make UPI payments. You can now make UPI payments through ChatGPT. The Reserve Bank of India and NPCI have made preparations for this. Soon, shopkeepers and merchants will be able to accept UPI payments through ChatGPT. NPCI has partnered with Razorpay and OpenAI for this.

UPI Payment through ChatGPT

ChatGPT’s move follows the announcement by Google and Perplexity of their AI-powered payment system. Razorpay has confirmed that this feature is currently being privately tested. The feature, which allows UPI payments through an AI agent, is currently in beta. This feature will allow payments to be made without leaving ChatGPT, making transactions easier.

According to a Reuters report, this feature is currently undergoing a pilot project. It will test how secure and user-friendly UPI payments will be using AI tools like ChatGPT. This feature will build on UPI’s recently released Reserve Pay feature, which allows users to reserve a portion of their funds for dedicated merchants.

Airtel Payments Bank and Axis Bank will be the banking partners for this pilot project of Raorpay. Tata Group’s Big Basket and telecom operator Vodafone-Idea will be the first platforms to allow UPI payments through ChatGPT. Raorpay co-founder Harshil Mathur said that the trial of the new agentic AI payment system has recently been completed. It will be integrated into AI tools like ChatGPT in the coming weeks.

Biometric payment feature

NPCI has announced a biometric feature for UPI users. Additionally, users will now be able to make UPI payments using their smartglasses. Both of these features are designed to make UPI even easier for users. This NPCI feature will soon be available in apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. Users will be able to use their face or fingerprint instead of a PIN to make payments.
