UPI New Rules: The Indian government has taken a major step toward simplifying UPI payments. Users will now be able to make payments using fingerprint or face recognition, without entering a PIN.

This new feature will come into effect on October 8, 2025. This change will be made using biometric data stored in the country’s Aadhaar system.

The Indian government has taken a major step towards simplifying UPI payments. Now, users will be able to make payments without entering a PIN, simply by using fingerprint or face recognition. This new feature will be implemented from October 8, 2025. According to a Reuters report, this change will be made using biometric data stored in the country’s Aadhaar system. This means that when making payments, you will only need to authenticate with your fingerprint or face recognition.

The feature will be presented at the Global Fintech Festival

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates the UPI system, is preparing to introduce this new feature at the ongoing Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai. The move follows recent guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowing alternative authentication methods for digital payments.

A 4 or 6 digit PIN is still required.

Until now, UPI transactions required a 4- or 6-digit PIN, but this requirement will now be eliminated. This system will be especially helpful for elderly and less educated users who often find it difficult to remember PINs.

The facility will be available in select banks and wallet apps.

According to sources, this feature will initially be available to select banks and wallet apps. It will gradually be rolled out to all users. Digital payment experts say that biometric authentication will increase both security and speed. This is expected to further increase the number of UPI users in India.
