Unified Pension Scheme: The government has implemented the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for central employees, due to which now the benefits of both NPS and OPS will be available together. Know what are the new rules 2025 and who will get the benefit.
The Central government on Thursday said it has issued service matters rules relating to benefits under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for its employees.
According to PIB, as per the Central Civil Services (Implementation of Integrated Pension Scheme under National Pension System) Rules, 2025, government employees who have opted for the National Pension System (NPS) will now also get the option of benefits under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The government has issued this rule through a notification. This simply means that the way has been opened for government employees to have a new pension scheme combining the benefits of both NPS and OPS.
The ministry further said that various subjects will be covered in the Central Civil Services Rules, 2025.
- Nomination under Integrated Pension Scheme,
- Facility to transfer from UPS to NPS one year before the date of retirement or three months before VRS.
- Contribution by employee and government
- Compensation payable to Government employee in case of delay in registration and credit of contribution into NPS account
- Option to receive benefits under CCS (Pension) Rules or UPS Regulations in the event of death or disability of the Government servant while in service.
- Benefits due on retirement, superannuation, premature retirement, voluntary retirement, absorption in an autonomous body or public sector undertaking, retirement on invalidity and resignation from service.
- Effect of compulsory retirement/dismissal/removal from service
- Effect of departmental/judicial proceedings pending at the time of retirement.
