According to the statement, timely completion of MBU is a necessary condition to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the biometric data of children. If MBU is not completed even after the age of 7, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated as per the existing rules.

UIDAI has made major changes in the rules regarding children’s Aadhaar card. It has been made mandatory for children who have got Aadhaar card at the age of less than 5 years to update their biometrics after crossing the age of 7 years. If this is not done, the 12-digit unique identification number of the child’s Aadhaar card can be deactivated. This information has been given in an official statement. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started sending text messages to the mobile number registered in the Aadhaar of children to complete the process of ‘mandatory updating of biometrics’ (MBU).

Timely completion of MBU is a necessary condition

According to the statement, “Timely completion of MBU is a necessary condition to maintain the accuracy and reliability of children’s biometric data. If MBU is not completed even after the age of 7 years, the Aadhaar number may become inactive as per the current rules. A UIDAI official said that if the fingerprints and iris details are not updated in the Aadhaar card of children, then children may face problems in availing the benefits of various schemes related to Aadhaar.

Biometrics of children below 5 years of age are not taken

Actually, for Aadhaar enrolment of children below 5 years of age, their fingerprints and iris biometrics are not taken. Aadhaar enrolment is done only with the photograph, name, date of birth, gender, address and proof document of a child below 5 years of age. According to the statement, “As per the current rules, it is mandatory to update the fingerprints, iris and photograph in the Aadhaar details of the child when he is five years old. This is the first opportunity to update the biometrics compulsorily.”

Children get many facilities due to Aadhaar card

If the child gets the mandatory biometrics updated between the age of 5 to 7 years, then it is free. But after the age of 7, a fee of Rs 100 is charged to update the biometrics. UIDAI said that the Aadhaar card made with updated biometrics makes the life of the child easier and ensures seamless use of Aadhaar in availing services like admission in school, registration for entrance exam, scholarship etc.
