It’s Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and Toyota has finally decided to join the electric party in India. They just pulled the wraps off the Urban Cruiser Ebella, and let’s be real—while it’s basically the Maruti e Vitara in a different suit, it looks significantly cleaner. Or nothing.

Bookings opened today for a token of ₹25,000, and the thing is, Toyota is going all-in on “ownership peace of mind” to fight off the Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE 6. Those too.

The “Ebella” Breakdown: Field Notes

It’s an ongoing situation where rebadging is the name of the game, but Toyota’s “Urban Tech” styling actually gives this one its own identity. Here’s the ground reality:

  • The Look: It’s got these sleek, segmented LED DRLs and a “hammerhead” front that looks like a futuristic Camry. The thing is, they kept the rear door handles hidden in the C-pillar, which gives it a tidy, coupe-like vibe.

  • Range Anxiety? Maybe Not: You get two choices. The 49kWh battery gets you about 440km, but the 61kWh version claims 543km (ARAI). The thing is, that’s plenty for a Delhi-to-Jaipur run without sweating. Or nothing.

  • Tech Inside: The cabin is a dual-tone brown and black. You get a massive 10.25-inch touchscreen and—here’s the kicker—rear seats that actually slide and recline. Let’s be real, most EVs treat rear passengers like an afterthought, but not this one.

  • Safety First: 7 airbags and disc brakes on all four wheels are standard. The thing is, the top-spec E3 variant adds Level 2 ADAS, so it’ll basically steer itself on the highway. Those too.

And Here’s the Kicker…

The thing is, Toyota knows people are scared of EV resale value. Or nothing. To fix that, they’re offering a 60% assured buyback scheme and a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental program. Those too. It basically means you don’t have to “own” the most expensive part of the car if you don’t want to.

One side comment—the car is being built at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, and while the Maruti version (e Vitara) launches in Feb, Toyota is already taking your money today. It’s an ongoing situation where the “Toyota Badge” might actually be the deciding factor for people who don’t trust “new” EV tech.
