On Thursday 3rd July, the festival of Kharchi Puja will be celebrated in Tripura. This is a major religious festival, which is celebrated with great devotion and pomp every year in the month of July. This puja is dedicated to the 14 deities of Tripura, which are called ‘Chaturdash Devta’. This festival is usually held at the Chaturdash Devta Temple located in the old Haveli area near the capital Agartala. Kharchi Puja lasts for seven days, with special worship, procession of deities and traditional cultural programs. It is believed that this puja destroys sins and purifies the land.
