The New Tata Sierra: First Look at the Segment-Killers

It’s back. The second-gen Tata Sierra just dropped.1 ₹11.50 lakh to start, ex-showroom.2 It’s been 35 years since the original model, which was tech-loaded for its time. And here’s the kicker: the 2025 version is doing the exact same thing. Segment-first features all over the place. Tata really went for it.

Here’s the breakdown on the stuff you need to know about.

Screens. Screens Everywhere.

The Triple Screen Setup. That’s the big highlight. It’s a panoramic display—a full-digital cluster for the driver, the big central infotainment screen, and a dedicated screen just for the co-driver.3 A three-screen layout.

It’s massive. The infotainment and co-driver displays are both 4$12.3$ inches each.5 The driver’s screen is 6$10.25$ inches.7 But, a quick note: this triple setup is reserved for the top-spec Accomplished Plus trim.8 You have to pay up for the full tech experience, or nothing. We even asked our Instagram family what they thought of two screens versus three. The results were surprising.

The Comfort War—Tiny Changes, Big Impact

  • Extendable Sun Visors: This is a small thing, but it’s a standard fitment. Traditional visors handle the front glare, sure. But the extendable ones? They slide out for the side windows. Enhanced eye comfort for both people in the front. It’s a welcome move, let’s be real. It’s functional.

  • Extendable Thigh Support: This is new for Tata. And a first for the compact SUV segment. It’s a fold-out extension on the seat base.9 Adjustable. It’s all about reducing fatigue on those long, wandering drives.10 You can grab this one from the mid-spec Adventure Plus trim onwards. Nice touch.

Audio and Safety: Dialing it up

Tata used to do a $10$-speaker JBL setup. Now, in the Sierra, they’ve cranked it up. It’s a 12-speaker JBL Black Sound System.11 Two more speakers, yes. And then Y followed—they added Dolby 12$5.1$ with Dolby Atmos.13 There’s a soundbar, too. It’s seriously immersive. You want that magic? Go for the higher-specced Accomplished and Accomplished Plus variants.

The  Blind Spot Monitor is smarter here. It’s not just the $360$-degree camera feed. This system projects what the driver might miss at the front or rear when turning or overtaking.14 That’s a real safety bump. We would have loved it to be standard, but Tata reserved it for the mid-spec Adventure and above trims.15

Under the Skin

The suspension is getting attention, too. They put in Frequency Dependent Dampeners (FDD).16 The dampeners are made to literally absorb the bumps and undulations.17 Smooth drive, or so they say. It should help with stability if you’re doing any soft-roading. You get this FDD suspension from the Adventure Plus trim.18

And here’s the kicker on the entry level: an Electronic Parking Brake is standard. Right from the base variant. With auto-hold functionality. Not unique to the segment, but making it standard is a segment-first amenity for sure. Good move for new drivers getting behind the wheel of an SUV.

The current Sierra is FWD only.19 But there is some good news—the platform is ready for more. The situation is ongoing, and we’re already trying to figure out why the FWD setup could still be a capable off-road SUV. It’s a car to watch.

End….
