The ROG Strix G17 doesn’t lower its guard and displays all modern games smoothly on the matte screen (IPS, Full HD, 144 Hz). The individually configurable LED bar on the bottom brings color into play. The laptop can accommodate up to three M.2 SSDs.

The Asus ROG Strix G17 G712LWS is a high-end 17.3-inch gaming laptop. You’ll look in vain for high-quality case materials since the entire chassis is made of black plastic. The LED strip on the bottom of the device brings color into play. Furthermore, the color scheme can be individually adjusted to your own liking. However, the strip can’t be controlled independently of the keyboard’s RGB backlighting.

The laptop is powered by a Core i7-10750H processor and a GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics core. This CPU-GPU combination brings all modern games smoothly onto the matte screen at Full HD resolution and maximum quality settings. Resolutions beyond Full HD are also possible when an appropriate monitor is connected.

The hardware is equipped with 16 GB of RAM (2x 8 GB, dual-channel mode). An expansion to up to 32 GB is possible according to Asus. Many competitors support up to 64 GB, though. Should the storage space of the built-in 1 TB NVMe SSD (M.2 2280) run out, it can be expanded. In addition to the existing NVMe SSD, two more M.2 models can be installed. RAID 0 is also supported.

The Full HD display (IPS, 144 Hz) scores points with a matte surface, stable viewing angles, sufficient brightness, good contrast, quick response times, and very decent color reproduction.
