It’s Saturday, January 24, 2026, and if you’re in Hyderabad or anywhere in Telangana, the nightmare of visiting the RTA office just died. Starting today, you don’t need to take your brand-new car or bike to a government office for registration. You just buy it, and the showroom handles the rest. Or nothing.

Showroom Registration: Field Notes
It’s an ongoing situation where the Telangana transport department has finally gone “digital-first.” Here’s the ground reality:
The Big Launch: Yesterday, Friday, Jan 23, they did a pilot run at a showroom in Madhapur. A Honda Elevate ZX was registered and delivered to a customer without a single RTO visit. Those too.
The “How-To”: The dealer does everything now. They upload your invoice, Form 21 (sale certificate), Form 22 (road-worthiness), insurance, and photos of the vehicle directly to the portal. The thing is, a transport official verifies it online and pings back the registration number.
The RC Book: You don’t have to go collect it. The Registration Certificate (RC) will be sent to your home address via Speed Post. Let’s be real—this is how it should have always been.
The Catch: This only applies to non-transport vehicles (personal cars and bikes). If you’re buying a taxi, an auto, or a truck, you still have to do it the old-fashioned way. Or nothing.

New vs. Old Registration Process (Telangana 2026)
| Step | Old Way (Pre-2026) | New Way (From Today) |
| Inspection | Drive vehicle to RTO for physical check. | Exempt (for fully built cars/bikes). |
| Documentation | Agent or owner submits physical files. | Dealer uploads everything online. |
| Number Allotment | Takes 24–48 hours after visit. | Real-time verification & allotment. |
| RC Collection | Manual pickup or long postal delays. | Guaranteed Speed Post delivery. |
| Fancy Numbers | Visit RTO for bidding process. | Still online (but verified at showroom). |
And Here’s the Kicker…
Transport Commissioner K. Ilambarithi gave his team just 15 days to build this software. They actually pulled it off. The thing is, this move is aimed at killing the “agent culture” at RTOs. No more paying ₹2,000 to a middleman to stand in line for you. Those too.
One side comment—the department is still going to do “random inspections” at showrooms. If they find a dealer faking document uploads, they’re threatening to cancel their trade license immediately. It’s an ongoing situation where the government is trusting the dealers, but with a very big stick. Or nothing.
