Speed Post New Charges 1 October 2025 : If you frequently send documents or goods through the post office, this news is important for you. The Indian Postal Department has revised the speed post rates after 12 years. The new rates will be effective from October 1, 2025. Along with this, several new services and safety features are being added for customers.
Why were the prices changed?
Speed Post rates were last revised in October 2012. During this period, not only did operating costs increase, but investments in technology and digital services also required increased investment. The ministry states that the new rates are in keeping with the times and necessary to maintain the latest service.
Online Payment – The hassle of paying cash at the counter will be eliminated. Customers will be able to make payments directly online.
OTP-based delivery – Parcels will only be delivered to the person who provides the correct OTP. This increases both safety and trust.
SMS Alerts – Customers will receive SMS alerts at every step regarding the arrival of their parcel.
Online Booking – Now it will be easy to book parcel from home through mobile app or website.
Real-time tracking – Customers will be able to instantly find out where their goods are and when they will arrive.
Registration Service – Online registration service is provided for regular customers, which will make the service faster and safer.
How will the new charges be?
Now the rates of speed post will be decided according to weight and distance.
Local Area: Goods up to 50 grams will be sent for Rs 19, 51 to 250 grams for Rs 24 and 251 to 500 grams for Rs 28.
Up to 200 km : Goods up to 50 grams for Rs 47, 51 to 250 grams for Rs 59 and 251 to 500 grams for Rs 70.
From 201 to 500 km: Rs 47 for up to 50 grams, Rs 63 for 51 to 250 grams and Rs 75 for 251 to 500 grams.
From 501 to 1000 km: Rs 47 for up to 50 grams, Rs 68 for 51 to 250 grams and Rs 82 for 251 to 500 grams.
From 1001 to 2000 km: Rs 47 for up to 50 grams, Rs 72 for 51 to 250 grams and Rs 86 for 251 to 500 grams.
Distance more than 2000 km : Up to 50 grams Rs 47, 51 to 250 grams Rs 77 and 251 to 500 grams Rs 93.
For example, if someone wants to send a document weighing up to 200 grams from Delhi to Mumbai (about 1400 km), he will now have to spend Rs 72.
Extra service charge
If the customer wants to avail OTP based delivery or registration service, he will have to pay Rs 5 extra per item and GST on it.
Relief for students and bulk customers
The Postal Department has also announced a discount of 10 percent for students and 5 percent for new bulk customers.
Merger of Registered Post
Registered Post will be completely merged with Speed Post from September 1, 2025. This means that there will no longer be a separate registered post service.
