The Education Department of Kerala has announced that students will not be required to wear uniforms in schools during festivals. According to the new order, festivals like Onam, Christmas and Ramzan will now be exempted from the compulsory uniform rule.
After this decision, students will now be able to go to school in traditional or festive attire. According to the government, this order will help in promoting the spirit of celebration and respect for cultural diversity among children.
‘Surakshamitram’ initiative launched
Earlier, Kerala Education Minister V. Sivankutty on August 10 announced the launch of a new initiative called ‘Surakshamitram’, aimed at strengthening child safety in the state’s schools. The minister said in a post on X that the programme, launched by the General Education Department, will enable students to register complaints anonymously through specially installed help boxes in their schools.
The post reads, “‘Surakshamitram’ is a new initiative launched by the General Education Department of Kerala to ensure the safety of children in the state. It allows students to register complaints anonymously through a helpbox installed in their schools. The government is committed to taking action against atrocities against children.”
Similarly, in July, a Zumba dance initiative was introduced in schools on Wednesdays as a part of the curriculum to promote physical fitness and mental health among students. The programme is a part of the anti-drug campaign in Kerala schools, aimed at helping students manage stress through physical activities.
