School Holidays: Onam festival is celebrated with great pomp in South India. This festival is associated with the faith in Lord Vishnu and King Mahabali. Onam is considered to be the biggest festival of Kerala, which people wait for the whole year.
On the occasion of Onam festival, 10 days holiday has been given in schools in Kerala. That is, children’s holidays in Kerala will last till September 7, 2025. Schools will remain closed from 4 to 7 September due to Onam festival in Kerala.
After this, schools will reopen from September 8 and classes will start normally. Despite heavy rains in the state, people are celebrating Onam with enthusiasm along with their families.
Why is Onam festival special
Onam is celebrated for 10 days because it is believed to mark the arrival of King Mahabali, who is very dear to the people of Kerala. It is believed that Kerala was the most prosperous and happy during his time and every year he comes to visit his subjects. For this reason, people celebrate the festival with great enthusiasm. Each day of Onam has a different significance, which includes prayers, flower decorations, traditional games, dances and special dishes.
Half yearly exam will be over
The timing of Onam holidays is also related to the academic calendar of schools. In most schools in Kerala, half-yearly exams are ending before the holidays begin. Answer sheets will be checked and results will be prepared during the holidays. It is expected that the exam results will be announced to the students as soon as the schools reopen on September 8.
Participate in cultural activities
Education officials said, students should take some time out during Onam holidays for light preparation of studies, but at the same time enjoy this holiday and also engage in cultural activities. Parents have been advised to contact their school for any new information or changes or see the official notice issued on the website of Kerala General Education Department.
