School Holidays In August: Special month of August
This month is going to be fun for school children. On one hand there are national festivals like Independence Day, on the other hand there are festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami and Onam. There will be holidays in schools on all these occasions. In such a situation, you can take your child for a walk, spend time with family or relax a bit for exam preparation.
Raksha Bandhan (9 August – Saturday)
Raksha Bandhan is on 9 August, which is a special festival of brother-sister love. Schools remain closed on this day especially in North India, Delhi, UP, Rajasthan and Haryana. Sisters tie Rakhi on the brother’s wrist and the brother promises to protect them, so on this day children will not have to go to school, but will also get sweets and gifts at home.
Jhulan Purnima (13 to 17 August)
The festival of Jhulan Purnima is celebrated with great pomp in West Bengal, Odisha and Eastern India. This is a festival related to the swing of Radha-Krishna which lasts for several days. During this time, some schools in these states may be closed, so children of Bengali and Oriya families can enjoy this occasion.
Independence Day (15 August – Friday)
On 15 August, the whole country celebrates independence. Flag hoisting, cultural programs and dramas will take place in schools in the morning. After this, children will get a holiday. This day will bring a special atmosphere in every school, where children will be seen painted in the color of patriotism.
Janmashtami (16 August – Saturday)
Janmashtami is on 16 August, which is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. Schools are closed on this day in states like UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Children can participate in Matki breaking and worship at home. Many schools can also give holidays on the days around it.
Onam (26 to 28 August)
Onam is a famous festival of Kerala which will be celebrated from 26 to 28 August. In which the joy of harvest is celebrated. Rangoli (Pookalam), dance and delicious food are enjoyed. Especially on the day of Thiruvonam, schools will be completely closed, so the children of Kerala can enjoy this festival to the fullest.
Ganesh Chaturthi (27 August – Wednesday)
Ganesh Chaturthi is on 27 August which is celebrated with great pomp in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Telangana. People install idols of Ganesha and worship him. Schools remain closed in many states so that children can participate in family and social events.
