School Holiday in October List 2025: Just hearing the name of holidays brings a smile on the faces of children and adults. Especially for children, waiting for school holidays is no less than a festival. The month of October is considered special for children because of holidays and festivals.
Major festivals like Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath Puja fall in this month, due to which the number of holidays in schools increases. This year too, children will get many days off from school in October, but the dates of holidays may vary slightly according to the state. This month, there are four Sundays in schools and many major festivals too. Schools will remain closed on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra (Vijayadashmi), Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Diwali and Chhath Puja.
Main holidays in the month of October
- October 2 : Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and Dussehra
- October 7: Maharishi Valmiki’s birth anniversary
- October 20: Naraka Chaturdashi and Diwali (number of holidays may vary by state)
- October 27: Hala Shashthi (Lalai Chhath)
- October 28: Chhath Puja
Many schools have declared holidays till October 6 on the occasion of Navratri and Vijayadashami.
State-wise holiday details
West Bengal: Schools will remain closed for Durga Puja until October 6. Holiday dates may vary slightly between government and private schools.
Assam: Holidays were declared for Dussehra until September 30. Schools will also remain closed on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2.
Delhi: According to the Delhi Directorate of Education, schools will be closed from September 29 to October 1. Changes in dates are possible for private schools.
Uttar Pradesh: Schools will remain closed on October 1 and 2 on the occasion of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti.
Bihar: Schools will remain closed from September 27 to October 2, in some districts the holidays have been extended till October 5.
Jharkhand: Government schools in Dhanbad will remain closed from September 27 to October 2, with some schools extending the holidays till October 5.
Odisha: Schools will remain closed from September 29 to October 2 and are likely to reopen on October 3.
