SBI Number: In recent times, cases of cyber fraud are increasing rapidly. Fraudsters take banking details from customers through fake calls and messages and make money disappear from their accounts. Keeping this danger in mind, the country’s largest government bank, State Bank of India (SBI), has issued a special alert to its customers. The bank has shared important information to protect customers from fake calls.

The bank has said that their contact center contacts customers only from numbers starting with 1600 or 140 series. If a call comes from any other number and the person on the other end claims to be an SBI employee, be cautious as this call may be part of a fraud.

Why is this alert necessary?

Nowadays, fraudsters call customers in the name of bank employees and take information like account details, password, OTP and PIN. This information is immediately used to withdraw money from the bank account. In such a situation, identifying the call number is the first step towards security.

Calls will come only from these numbers

Real calls from SBI Contact Center only start with 1600 or 140 series. Be suspicious of calls coming from any other number.

What should customers do?

  • Do not share banking details on any call from an unknown number.
  • Never share information like OTP, CVV, ATM PIN over the phone.
  • If the call seems suspicious, disconnect it immediately and contact SBI branch or helpline.

RBI gave instructions in January

Let us tell you that in January, RBI had given an order to all banks and regulated institutions. RBI had said that they should make transaction and service related calls only from the numbers of ‘1600xx’ series.
