42 Indians died in a horrific road accident in Saudi Arabia. On Monday, a passenger bus travelling from Mecca to Medina collided with a diesel tanker. The bus immediately caught fire and people were burnt alive.
Local authorities launched rescue operations, but the intensity of the fire further complicated the situation. According to initial reports, the deceased include 20 women and 11 children. Only one person is said to have survived the accident. The identification of the bodies is yet to be completed. A Haj Committee spokesperson said that efforts are being made to ascertain which travel agency facilitated the pilgrimage and how many of the deceased were residents of Telangana.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He directed State Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Director General of Police Ravi Gupta to gather full details of the incident. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, the Chief Secretary informed State Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal in New Delhi and asked him to coordinate with the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi Embassy. The state government has also taken necessary relief measures.
Reddy stated that a control room has been set up at the Secretariat to assist the affected families.
