According to information available on the Reserve Bank’s Twitter handle, its number of followers was 9.66 lakh on September 27, 2020, which has increased to 10,00,513 on Sunday, November 22, 2020.



The number of ‘followers’ on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Twitter has crossed 10 lakh. The Reserve Bank has become the world’s first monetary authority to achieve this feat. The Reserve Bank, with less monetary strength at the microblogging site, has surpassed the US Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank (UCB), with 10 million followers. In this way, the Reserve Bank has become the most popular central bank on Twitter.

According to information available on the Reserve Bank’s Twitter handle, its number of followers was 9.66 lakh on September 27, 2020, which has increased to 10,00,513 on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Although the Reserve Bank has been associated with Twitter much later than other central banks, it has achieved this fastest available. The world’s most powerful central bank, the Federal Reserve, has only 6.67 lakh followers on Twitter. At the same time, the number of followers of European central bank is 5.91 lakhs. America’s central bank was connected to Twitter in March 2009. The ECB has been associated with Twitter since October 2009.

The Twitter account of the 85-year-old Reserve Bank started in January 2012. Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das has a separate Twitter handle, on which the number of followers is 1.35 lakh. Reserve Bank Governor Das tweeted on Sunday, ‘The number of followers on the Twitter account of the Reserve Bank has gone up to 1 million today. Congratulations to all my colleagues in the Reserve Bank for this.

The central bank of Mexico ranks second in this list. His number of followers on Twitter is 7.74 lakh. Bank of Indonesia is third with 7.57 lakh followers. The Federal Reserve is at the fourth and ECB at the fifth position. Central bank of Brazil is at sixth place in the list. It has 3.82 lakh followers on Twitter. Bank of England is seventh with 3.17 lakh followers, Bank of Canada is eighth with 1.80 lakh followers, State Bank of Pakistan is ninth with 1.16 lakh followers and Reserve Bank of Australia is in tenth position with 49,200 followers. Bank of Japan, the world’s third most powerful monetary authority, has only 28,900 followers on Twitter.



In March 2019, the number of Reserve Bank followers on Twitter was 3,42,000, which more than doubled to 7,50,000 in March 2020. In the seven-week lockdown imposed during the Corona virus epidemic, the number of followers on Twitter of the Reserve Bank has increased by more than 1.5 lakh, an official said. In the current financial year, 2.5 lakh followers have been linked to the Twitter handle of the Reserve Bank.
