The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) was launched in 2019 to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, every eligible farmer is given ₹6,000 annually.

The central government released the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) on Friday (September 26). This installment has been distributed in advance only to farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, so that farmers in these states affected by floods and landslides can receive immediate financial support. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan released this installment.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, more than 2.7 million farmers have received direct transfers of over ₹540 crore into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). These include approximately 2.7 million women farmers.

What did Shivraj Singh Chauhan say?

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that this installment will prove helpful to affected farmers. He stated that an amount of ₹2,000 has been transferred to each farmer’s account. It should be noted that the recent devastating floods and landslides in Himachal, Punjab, and Uttarakhand have devastated farmers. Therefore, the decision to release the installment ahead of time was taken to restore farmers’ confidence and encourage them to return to farming.

What is PM Kisan Yojana?

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in 2019 to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, each eligible farmer receives an annual grant of ₹6,000. This amount is transferred directly to the farmer’s bank account in three equal installments (₹2,000 each).

This scheme is available to every Indian farmer who owns cultivable land. To do this, farmers must link their Aadhaar number to their bank account. Completing eKYC is also mandatory. If a farmer is an income tax payer, a pensioner, or holds a government/public sector job, they cannot benefit from this scheme.
